Research Leader in Entomology
NIAB is a dynamic, research led and market driven plant bioscience organisation, with an emphasis on innovative applications for end-users in the agricultural, horticultural and food sectors. NIAB EMR, based in Kent, focuses on perennial fruit crops with over 100 years of innovative, strategic, and applied research in this sector working closely with a range of stakeholders including industry.
The appointee will collaborate with colleagues across the NIAB group and contribute to the NIAB EMR Growing Kent & Medway project which has recently been awarded £18 m by the Strength in Places Fund.
We are offering a position for a leading research entomologist to work in the Pest and Pathogen Ecology group at NIAB EMR. The applicant is expected to bring an area of expertise they can develop as part of the group but could include, pest, natural enemy, or pollinator ecology under a range of disciplines from technology to conservation biocontrol to molecular science.
The successful applicant should have a track record of securing project funding with a strong and active national and international scientific presence. You will work in a friendly, progressive, and enthusiastic team to deliver solutions primarily for the fruit industry but with the freedom to expand into other exciting areas of agricultural entomology.
This is a permanent position in which the applicant will identify research and commercial opportunities to underpin the research direction of the department and NIAB.
The applicant should have 5+ years’ experience of developing and delivering science programmes, services and information based on ecological, genetic, semiochemical and/or pest/beneficial entomology. The successful candidate will have significant experience (>3 years) in a senior scientific management role and be a team-player with a good level of autonomy, and critical thinking with excellent communication skills for a range of stakeholders.
A track record of publications (>20) in peer-reviewed journals and public presentations at high-profile conferences to both academic and industry stakeholders is required.
The salary for this role is in the range of £46,908-£61,895 per annum, dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications.
