Plant Breeding & Micropropagation Technician

NIAB is a dynamic, research led and market driven plant bioscience organisation, with an emphasis on innovative applications for end-users in the agricultural, horticultural and food sectors.  With almost 90 years’ experience of technology evaluation and transfer, NIAB is spear-heading the advancement of plant genetic resources through research, technical services and training.

We wish to appoint a Plant Breeding and Micropropagation Technician based at East Malling in Kent to work with our breeding teams. They would be responsible for providing support on a range of tasks within the breeding programmes.  The successful candidate will be involved with tasks including micropropagating plants through meristem excision, maintaining in vitro plant cultures, assisting with pathogen screening trials and crossing programmes.  This is a permanent position.

The candidate must have A-levels or equivalent and have an interest in horticultural science and developing skills in micropropagation is essential.  A BSc in Biology/Horticulture or equivalent would be beneficial but not essential.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly to meet seasonal workloads with occasional weekend work and occasional unsocial hours. Experience of the horticultural industry and direct experience of working in tissue culture or micropropagation is desirable.

The salary for this role is in the range of £19,920 to £26,284 per annum, dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
