A five year Defra funded project “Development of zero and minimal herbicide regimes for controlling weeds on hard surfaces and determining their emissions” aimed to develop a weed control programme for pavements and roads (amenity use) which minimises risk to the environment (in particular, water quality) compared to using herbicides alone, while still controlling weeds to an acceptable standard. There is more information about the Weeds project in the Resource Efficiency for Crop Production current projects area on this website.
Dr Mike Solomon, former Science Director and Chief Executive looks back over 100 years of research at East Malling.
