Research Interests

I am a PhD student, registered at the University of Reading, working under the supervision of Dr. Charlotte Nellist and Dr. Richard Harrison, NIAB EMR and Prof. Jim Dunwell at the University of Reading. My project is working on the genomics of the oomycete pathogen Phytophthora fragariae, which causes red core disease in the cultivated strawberry, Fragaria × ananassa. The aim of this work is to identify the genes in P. fragariae that are recognised by the resistance genes in different varieties of strawberry. The identification of these genes will aid in understanding the ability of different isolates of P. fragariae to cause disease on varieties of strawberry with different resistance gene complements. This will ultimately aid in the breeding of strawberry varieties with durable disease resistance to this economically important pathogen. To see more details on this project, please click here.
