Research Interests

(1) Developmental biology of fungi and plants using biochemistry, molecular genetics and genomics, regulation of fungal nitrogen and carbohydrate metabolism, environmental regulation of morphogenesis, identification of novel viruses of Agaricus and fungal/viral interactions, Analysis of fungal genomes/biology, plant polymer decomposition and bioconversion, fungal responses to nutrition and environmental/biotic stresses,  characterising gene function by silencing, modelling expression profiles and promoter analysis.

(2) Produce quality and the development of science to technological application: Pre- and post-harvest quality of fruit, salads and mushrooms, measurement and quantification of quality, biology of quality-loss (using biochemistry, genomics, biomechanics/texture) modified atmosphere packaging; heterologous protein expression, development of viral diagnostic techniques.
